It's from my mother that I've picked up my habit of never throwing anything away. Every time I come up here, I always wind up going back home with an extra bag of stuff. Which is great for this year, since I only brought one bag with me, so I won't have to check anything.

We went through another corner of the garage today, and I've come out of the raid with a few hoodies and two kangaroo pelts. More astonishing than the fact that my mother just had two kangaroo pelts lying around, collecting dust, was the fact that she has a box full of notebooks. My old notebooks. From high school. I just spent the better part of an hour reading through physics notes and the abysmal dreck I used to call fiction. Good lord, I was a fucking pretentious teenager. I hope to hell I don't still sound like that when I write.

By far, the most exciting find was the pelts, though. I've no idea where I'm going to put them, but I need them in my life.

And apropos of nothing, RDJ sounds like a goddamn Backstreet Boy reject when he sings. Or John Mayer's wimpy little brother. Just sayin'.

I'd heard about this, but never actually got the chance to watch it.

Ryan's just found it on Netflix

OH MY GOD, THIS SHOW IS BAD. And by bad, I mean hilarious. It seems like they realised that the only people who watched this show anyway were adults (or, in my case, the children of adults who enjoyed it), so they just made all the jokes they were never allowed to make before.

Ren's talling about ball sacs and and keeps making pitcher and catcher jokes. And he swears. A lot. I must admit that while this sort of humour isn't usually my thing, I'm sort of loving this.

I can't figure out if Billy West is doing all of the voices still, or if he's just doing Stimpy. Anyone know?

Rob Brydon put me in the mood for goulash the other day, during an episode of QI.

I spent a good portion of this morning reverse engineering my grandmother's recipe for it, because it's been years since I've had it. I haven't got it exact, but it's pretty close. It's a bit too sweet. I've left something out. Can't figure out what, though. It may just be the brand of ketchup I stuck in.

I know, ketchup in goulash probably sounds kinda nasty, but by the time I figured out that my grandmother put ketchup in hers, I'd already been eating the stuff for 20 years. Next time, I'll try with a different brand, and see if that makes a difference.

I also made WAY too much. I always wind up doing that somehow. So now, we've got goulash to much on all week. YUM.

Tonight while I was clearing out some of my stuff to make room for the rest of my stuff, I found something I'd forgotten I even had -- Ralph Records' 10th Anniversary Special. Finding it sparked a small and unexpected twinge of nostalgia, so I decided to put that on while I fiddled around with stuff. I credit this odd little gem for my discovery of a fair number of some of my favourite artists, so there's really not any part of this recording that I don't enjoy.

Listening to Penn Jillette lose his mind made me realise something, though. It's been a very long time since I've just put in an album and done nothing but listen to it all the way through. I'm always doing something else, as I am now, using music as something instead to drown out the noise from the AC or the car park outside. In California, I used to do that a lot; go out to the front room with a stack of old records after Ryan had gone to bed, and do nothing but sit in very dim light whilst just listening to the music. Not just hearing it, as one does when they listen to something while doing something else -- really listening to it.

It's quarter after one, and my sleep schedule is so massively fucked up that I won't be getting to sleep any time soon. I can't listen to my records, because alas, I have no turntable, but I've got loads of stuff on my iTunes. I really want to get one of those nifty USB turntables, because I've got so many records that I'm not able to do anything with, other than look at them (okay, one of them is actually framed and on my wall, but it's a collector's item).

I think that's what I'm going to do tonight, though. I'm not sure what I want to listen to, but I'm sure I'll find something.

(No, they are neither in the KKK, nor are they neo-nazis. They're just really odd.)

ETA: I accidentally deleted this. So, uhm... I suck. This was originally posted last night.

When I was a kid, I used to do a lot of those little "stained glass" suncatchers. My mum had dozens of the things in the kitchen, and I think loads of them went to family all over the place. My mum still has one of them, 20 years later.

This morning, I woke up with an incredible urge to do some of these suncatcher things. So, after hoofing all over town, I finally found a Michael's that sells them.

And now I don't know what the hell I'm going to do with the damn things. I'll hang a few in the window, but I think most of them will go to my mum and my gran this week. BUT DAMNIT, I'VE GOT SUNCATCHERS TO PAINT! And they are every bit as awesome as I remember them being when I was a kid. :D
