I think I fell out of love with fandom a long time ago

I shouldn't do this stuff, because it's not helping, but I just went through my AO3 account to see when the last time I wrote something for myself was. I've got one chapter to more of a collection of headcanon than a fic, which I posted a few weeks ago. Before that, the last thing that I wrote that was not a prompt fill, sequel to a prompt fill, or an exchange or challenge fic was 3 April 2011. Basically, a year ago.

I just don't have fun in fandom anymore. Not Sherlock, anyway, and that was my main one for a while. Aside from this AU of crack that Cat and I have been building and what goes on in MM, I just can't be bothered to care about it right now. And I think a lot of it is the way I like to participate in fandom. It's not about the fic and art for me; I love the meta stuff. meta_holmes and sceneothecrime were great, until they stopped updating. Since then, the only place I've really done anything in the fandom was the meme, and finding out that it's full of hypocrites and wankers just makes me hate everything right now. I can't bring myself to even want to participate in the main meme, rant post aside, because the people on the rant post are on the main meme, and I want nothing to do with any of them.

It's to the point that I don't even want my name associated with the meme. I've posted some fills logged-in over there, and I think I'm just going to delete that account and get rid of all of the stuff I've posted there. I'll keep it on AO3, but any association with the meme is going to be erased. It's toxic, and one of the main hubs of the fandom, which only makes the fandom in general seem toxic and hateful.

I get that, I really do. After dS and SPN I'm just barely willing to participate in SGA, and that's mostly me throwing fic at comms and running away. Memes? Oh hell no.

I truly, honestly believe that kind of toxicity it more prominent in larger fandoms; some small fandoms go rancid, of course, but in the larger fandoms there seems to be more tolerance of the bullshit because there are just SO many people, everyone can retreat to their own corner and shout at each other. I truly miss the kind of dialog I used to have in HF and LoM, about fic and meta and canon. If I could find a small fandom to bond with, I'd love it; right now nothing clicks but oh, I wish it would.

I'm a bit annoyed that Dirk Gently hasn't taken off as a fandom. That one could be fun, if people cared about it. As it is, the only one going that I enjoy is Cabin Pressure, but it's really divided. There's no DW presence except for the meme, and there's only the one comm on LJ.

The other one I really like (My Life in Film) has no fandom at all either. Near as I can tell, it's just me and one other person.

I feel exactly the same way about Sherlock fandom. Well, the main prompt meme and the large community. Absolute dickheads and I don't want to deal with them.

The meme used to be so much fun, too. The day it became a rant meme with the occasional prompt post is the day it started to suck though.
