Fandom Gripe

Sherlock fandom, I have a bone to pick with you.

Gen-fic. Seriously. Where is it? Pretty much every single pairing but one (maybe two) in this fandom squicks the holy living hell out of me. I don't now why, but it does. And if they don't squick me, they just break my brain (and sort of still squick me).

The fandom is fucking huge, with sometimes up to 50 posts a day, just to the main comm. This doesn't even count some of the off-shot comms.

I realise that there is a LOT of fanservice in this show, which I agree is effing hilarious. But this is a great show, with great writing and some of the best mysteries I've seen in a long damn time. So, please tell me why most of the fics posted focus on the slash aspect. This fandom is a great opportunity for writers to actually show off what they're capable of. I first checked out this fandom because I expected to find great plots with intricate twists and good character moments.

Instead, most of it's just how much Sherlock loves John, or John loves Sherlock. Never mind that John does have a very adorable and quite funny girlfriend. If I'm lucky, I'll spot maybe three or four gen-fics a week.

Come on, Sherlock fandom. Where are the plots? I want to feel the same sort of rush I got from watching the show. Save one or two fics posted from Crack_Van, I'm not getting that at all. I've left fandoms because they were full of wank, or just full of crazy, but this one's just shaping up to be full of boring.
