That fandom meme that's been going round.
This meme's been going around, and I'm putting off doing stuff. Be warned, here be mild spoilers for Sherlock (BBC).
What I Wrote (I'm so not going to post everything I wrote this year; just the highlights.)
The One With the Five Things - Friends, Gen, G - The continuity in this show is the worst I've ever seen, I think. With each retcon, the writers only screwed it up even worse. So, this is my massive retcon, which tried to make everything fit back together again.
Research Purposes - Sherlock (BBC), Gen, R - I really like the idea of ace!Sherlock, and wanted to explore that a bit. It's definitely a subject I plan on returning to, eventually.
Text Message Transcripts Between Mycroft and Sherlock Holmes - Sherlock (BBC), Gen, G-ish - I am so not going to pretend to know where this series came from. But it's exactly what it says on the tin.
Chasing Shadows - Sherlock (BBC), Gen, PG - Sherlock goes missing, and Mycroft goes mad trying to find him. This fandom his rife with heady characters that are fun to explore, which is exactly what this is. Sherlock's drug problem, from Mycroft's point of view.
Learning to Care - Sherlock (BBC), Gen, R - More introspection on the Holmes brothers. There's something rather not right about them, and they know it. A brief study on sociopathy/ASPD.
A Sticky Situation - Black Books, Gen, G - My Yuletide fic for this year. Really just a bit of nonsense, but so is the show. The building next to Black Books is thought to be haunted.
Leitmotif(s) of the year: Drugs/drug addiction, mental instability, and utter crack. Sometimes, all in the same fic.
Favorite(s) of the batch: Chasing Shadows and Learning to Care, for sure. I learned so much about the Holmes brothers whilst doing those ones, and they may wind up being personal favourites for a very long time.
Best of the batch: That... really depends. On a lot of things. I might say that the 'best' would be one of my darker pieces, but I'm sure someone will disagree and say that it was the maths piece or the drabbles or something.
Most under-appreciated by the universe: Hitchhiker's Guide. Hands down. I'm still working on my big epic for that fandom, and will hopefully finish it shortly. If Sherlock ever stops holding my brain hostage.
Favorite first lines:
Even as a child, Sherlock was a damn manipulative little bastard. - Kicking Puppies (no actual kicking of puppies took place)
Most people have a drug of choice, and the one in vogue when he arrives on the scene is Sodium Penthonal, but for good reason. - Psychotropics and You
The problem with the age of the internet and technology is that codes and ciphers are no longer very cryptic. - Some Sort of Deli
Out of milk. Send some. Urgent. - Text Message Transcripts, vol 3
He had an almost unerring ability to appear to read a person’s thoughts before they even realised they were thinking them. - Sixth Sense
Sherlock was 20 when he disappeared. - Chasing Shadows
Most fun to write: I do find myself giggling quite a bit at the Text Messages series, but I do think I'm going to probably have to side with the one that's not even done yet: Perfectly Safe.
Sexiest fic: I have gone a complete year without even going there. The closest I came was Research Purposes, which really just takes the piss out of porn and calls it out on being kind of lame.
"Holy crap, that's wrong even for you" fic: Learning to Care. I opened that one up with fucking cat vivisection.
Fic that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: Everything in the Main 'Verse for Sherlock. Seriously. I've learned something new during every one of those.
New pairing/genre/fandom you never predicted writing in January: I can honestly say that I never would have anticipated my brain being taken over by the world's only consulting detective. That's seriously something that only developed within the last month.
Hardest fic to write: Another one that's not yet finished, and hasn't even got a title yet. It's pretty much about how Sherlock more or less uses Lestrade in order to get clean.
Biggest disappointment: Running out of steam on the Friends series. I may go back to that, since I still have all the notes for it.
Biggest surprise: Getting involved in an active fandom again, for the first time in a few years.
Most telling fic: Again, I may have to cite the entire Main 'Verse on this one. I'm not sure whether I should be pleased at how easy it is to get into their headspace, or terrified at how much I relate to the fucked up psychologies of the Holmes brothers.
What's next?: NO IDEA! Definitely a very long and complicated Guide fic, one of these days, and almost certainly another month's worth of fucked-upedness from Sherlock.
