For anyone who still cares, sometime within the next week, I will be purging my AO3 account. Anyone who wants to save any of my fics there should save them ASAP.

That was yesterday. Today. Whatever. Time is irrelevant or something.

Anyway, I had to stay up pretty late for it, because I've been going to bed about two hours before the comic shop opens. I find it's more fun if I go with someone, but Ryan didn't want to go. So I just got some stuff and picked up the second Freakangels book and came home. There was a lot of Mouseguard available this year, so I grabbed all of that. They even had 2000AD, which I wonder if that means the comic shop is going to start carrying it. I hope it does, because I've had to stop reading it because I can't find it.

And then when I got home, I kipped up with my loot and immediately fell asleep. Whoops.

We all know if the tragic Shoe Event Horizon, which so devistated the Frogstar World B. I find myself in a similar state of crisis, apparently having more comics and graphic novels than can physically fit in the space of my flat. The only explanation for this is some sort of temporal anomaly, one which is undoubtedly highly unstable.

I think it's time to make like George Carlin and get a bigger place.

That if you liken your friend to Fran Katzenjammer often enough, sooner or later you'll find that she's actually started to become Fran Katzenjammer.

The little bit on the tap in the bath that stops the water and sends it up to the shower head has been sticking lately, because it hates us or something. I don't know. But it's nigh on impossible to close the damn thing, but I won eventually, because I have physics and tools and a brain.

And I may have shouted this loudly enough that Ryan came in to see if I required help.

Yep. That's my evening in a nutshell.
oxfordtweed: Shaun Riley super imposed over a blood spatter background, biting down on a phone (Nom - Shaun)
I was doing this fairly regularly before we moved and I stopped going to the comic shop on Wednesdays. I found a new shop just up at the next light, and they seem to have a pretty decent selection, so I figure I'll start up again.

First on the list, issues 1 and 2 of Whispers. My criteria for comics is good art and an interesting story. In that order. I can handle a predictable plot if the artwork looks good, but I can't sit through even the best stories if the artwork looks like clown vomit. This one's a Luna comic, so it's got the marks under art (aside from the occasional derp faces, which Joshua Luna seems to be unable to draw in three dimensions). The premise so far seems pretty interesting. It's about this guy called Sam, who has OCD and has learned how to astral-project. And he can also hear peoples' thoughts and see demons. There's also his recent-ex, Lily, whose dad seems to have been paralysed by a drunk driver. She thinks Sam's mental, which he probably is. The story's not had much of a chance to pick up yet, so more later.

I've not decided if this is a pull box comic or not. We'll see how it goes. I predict that Sam will be dating the girl he met in issue 2 by December, and probably around the same time, Lily will realise the mistake she made in breaking up with Sam. Ugh, I hope not. Please be surprising, Joshua Luna.

I also picked up volume 3 of the Killer. Not to be confused with the Hong Kong bullet opera of the same title, this one's a French translation about a hired gun. It's very Leon, in a way. I'm actually still on volume 2, but it was on the shelf so I grabbed it. It follows the unnamed narrator and anti-hero as he tries to work out if he's been sold out, set up, or just plain going mad. It's an older one, and may or may not have been abandoned. I can't actually tell. The end of volume 3 has a TBC note, but I can't find any information on a fourth volume. The copyright dates also don't match up between the book itself and what I can find on the internet.

Anyway, if I do happen to find a volume 4 out there, you can bet I'll be grabbing it up. It's got a good grit to it without being needlessly graphic, which is surprising considering the subject matter. The art is also quirky, which I like. Good line economy makes the character design pop out from a lot of the other stuff that's out there right now.

Last on the list is Mouse Guard: Legnds of the Guard. I heard about this once, a while ago. Probably on Attack of the Show. I'll be honest, I picked it up solely on the art. Cute, fluffy little mice with swords and armour? Yes, please. I've not actually read this one either, seeing as how I only bought these a few hours ago and spent my morning reading the Luna ones instead. But like the Killer, it looks like more of a slow read anyway.

Spotify, when I tell you to randomise my playlist, I do not mean that you should play item 1, then item 3, then item 2. Yes, that is technically random, but when there are 591 items on this playlist, you are allowed to mix it up a bit. :|

What are your favourites? I need to make a list of them for a thing.

Ryan and I had a small discussion this morning, the topic of which being anti-depressants. I've not been on them in forever, partially because we can't afford them, and partially because my black moods are, lately, very few and far between. I do have more manic episodes than depressive ones, and like most people, I feel fucking great when I'm manic. I've not done anything catastrophically stupid during one in years, and anymore, they're just characterised by a high creative outlet and a clean flat. Which, both of those are very good things.

But, yeah. I guess we'll see how things go.

Ryan is now on AO3. He's posting ponyfic.

Yeeep.
oxfordtweed: (Depressed - H2G2)
I shouldn't do this stuff, because it's not helping, but I just went through my AO3 account to see when the last time I wrote something for myself was. I've got one chapter to more of a collection of headcanon than a fic, which I posted a few weeks ago. Before that, the last thing that I wrote that was not a prompt fill, sequel to a prompt fill, or an exchange or challenge fic was 3 April 2011. Basically, a year ago.

I just don't have fun in fandom anymore. Not Sherlock, anyway, and that was my main one for a while. Aside from this AU of crack that Cat and I have been building and what goes on in MM, I just can't be bothered to care about it right now. And I think a lot of it is the way I like to participate in fandom. It's not about the fic and art for me; I love the meta stuff. [livejournal.com profile] meta_holmes and [livejournal.com profile] sceneothecrime were great, until they stopped updating. Since then, the only place I've really done anything in the fandom was the meme, and finding out that it's full of hypocrites and wankers just makes me hate everything right now. I can't bring myself to even want to participate in the main meme, rant post aside, because the people on the rant post are on the main meme, and I want nothing to do with any of them.

It's to the point that I don't even want my name associated with the meme. I've posted some fills logged-in over there, and I think I'm just going to delete that account and get rid of all of the stuff I've posted there. I'll keep it on AO3, but any association with the meme is going to be erased. It's toxic, and one of the main hubs of the fandom, which only makes the fandom in general seem toxic and hateful.
oxfordtweed: (WTF - Geoff)
The moderators on the meme have now basically condoned hate speech on the meme. Publicly (nothing particularly nasty on this thread, but what it links to is disgusting). If transphobic hate like that is going to be allowed on the meme, then I am 100% done with it. I don't care if it is 'just on the rant post.' The people on the rant post are people on the main meme as well, and if they really believe that these ideas are OK, then I want nothing to do with them.

At least I have my smaller fandoms.

Also, I'm getting to that final part of my big bang fic that's making me start to hate it. Someone kick me in the ass and tell me to stop being a baby and get back to work.

Does anyone know, in average word count, what the approximate maximum length of posts on DW is. I know it was ~9-10k on LJ, but it seems to be a bit more than that over here.

I think the comic shop up at the corner might become a weekly thing for me. Homeboy behind the counter, whose name I don't actually know, is pretty nice and the shop (while a bit pretentious) has a fairly decent selection. Very little in the way of imports, though. Which is a shame. Ah well.

To anyone who watches me on FFN, for whatever reason, I've completely taken that account offline, in as much as I seem to be able to do. I couldn't find a way to delete it outright, but there are no longer any works of fiction posted there.

I'm going to be doing the same to what still exists on LJ today, as well as getting rid of any WIPs still posted out there. Sorry. Just wanting to do some housekeeping.

Click that, and see what I mean. Seriously, what is this trend lately? Widescreen is becoming the standard. Screens are getting smaller and smaller as portability is becoming the Thing to aim for with technology.

And nothing works on widescreen. 16:9 is GREAT for watching movies. It sucks for everything else. I JUST WANT TO UPDATE MY WEATHER CHANNEL APP. Augh! D:

If a second series of Dirk Gently doesn't happen, I will be very sad.

I know the odds of it happening are probably about the same as Jim showing back up in series 3 of Sherlock, so I guess it's time to start readying myself for disappointment.
